Melting Pot

‘Melting Pot’ by Marco Torrice, is an ever-evolving dance practice conceived with the idea of facilitating dialogue and exchange among dancers from different styles. This practice serves as a space where participants can liberate various feelings and emotions, including joy, anger, sensuality, and social frustration. It acts as as well as a platform where movement enthusiasts of all kinds can build self-confidence and overcome shyness through a shared sense of togetherness. Rhythm plays a central role in ‘Melting Pot,’ serving as a facilitator for exchange and a bridge to empower a sense of collectivity.

Blending aspects of performance and recreation, ‘Melting Pot’ incorporates various stage presentation approaches. This includes the frontal contemplation of the dance show, the ‘Cypher’ – a typical improvisational structure of Street Dance, and the ‘Happening’ with participative performances, where the audience and performers merge into the same role/function.

The cast of ‘Melting Pot’ performances features a diverse group of participants, including professionals, non-professionals, academics, and autodidactic actors and dancers, spanning from Contemporary to Hip-Hop Freestyle.

Accompanied by a DJ set and music composition, the sounds range from Baile Funk to Dem Bow and Cumbia, sometimes combining multiple genres or straying far from the original versions. The music style may also adapt based on collaborations with different events or music artists. The performance events of ‘Melting Pot’ often seamlessly transition into the vibrant atmosphere of a party. Additionally, ‘Melting Pot’ can be shared through workshops and classes, typically concluding with an open-to-the-public ‘jam session.’

Since 2018, ‘Melting Pot’ has been presented in various theaters, exhibition spaces, clubs, and schools, including Les Brigittines (BE), La Pelanda (IT), Stuk (BE), Trafo (HU), Los Ninos (Zodiak, BE), Pink Screen (La Bodega, BE), among others. In 2022, it was featured at the closing of the Het Theatre Festival (BE), presented by Viernulvier and co-produced by La Geste (Les ballets C de la B + Cabinet K).
